Big-hitting Bubba Watson is one of Dan's selections at Bob Hope Classic

"Bubba Watson's been in the top 30 here two years running and it's worth backing him to come on for last weeks return to action. I've made it no secret that I'm a big fan and I really believe he's one of, if not the best, on tour without a win."

God knows what happened to Zach Johnson last week because he went from trading at [3.6] on Friday to playing WOEFULLY for most of Saturday and Sunday and falling right down the field. It's certainly the last time he'll feature in this column until he's shown more encouraging signs. Stuart Appleby was a big letdown and David Toms and Sean O'Hair plodded along having made the cut but failed to get competitive at any stage.

Last week's course didn't suit Bubba Watson but there were many encouraging signs upon his return to PGA Tour duty and the big man looks like he's got himself in rude health for the new season. Bubba looks even trimmer than the new streamlined John Daly. He's been in the top 30 here two years running and it's worth backing him to come on for last weeks return to action. I've made it no secret that I'm a big fan and I really believe he's one of, if not the best, on tour without a win.

Michael Sim was a revelation last year on the Nationwide Tour and carried on his good form with some good finishes in Australia at the end of last year. It's a big step up onto the PGA Tour but Sim's form is simply too good and too consistent to ignore. He's someone I will be following very closely this year.

Rickie Fowler has drawn some high praise in recent times, the youngster nearly won last year, losing out in a playoff at the Frys.com Open. He's still only made a handful of PGA Tour appearances but the former number one amateur in the world now has a Tour card after successfully coming through Q School last year. Fowler was always up against it last week on his first start of the year on a course that wouldn't have suited one bit. This week the rustiness should be gone and the courses looks right for him. The scores will be low and there are plenty of par fives.

Be wary however, this week is played across five rounds and four courses and with some bad weather expected the form book may well go out of the window.

Selections: Bubba Watson ([90.0]), Michael Sim ([50.0]), Rickie Fowler ([55.0])
