The 2010 Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham

Wayne Bailey / 22 February 2010 Free Bet View Market

Poquelin, pictured here on his way to winning at Cheltenham in December.

“Poquelin, who traded as high as [48.0] in the ante-post market, was last seen when winning the Boylesports Gold Cup Handicap at Cheltenham in December – and on that occasion, he showed that he could be a force to be reckoned with at the Festival by powering up the hill in the closing stages.”

Joncol was one of the more high profile withdrawals from the Ryanair Chase at the latest forfeit stage leaving the Paul Nicholls trained Poquelin heading the market at [5.2]. Joncol had traded as low as [8.2] on Betfair for the Ryanair but his trainer Paul Nolan has told the press that he'll wait until Punchestown instead:

"The horse will hopefully now go to Punchestown providing that the ground is safe at that time. I am very pleased with the horse and he is doing very well and has come out of the Hennessy better than the Lexus and I couldn't be happier with him...The decision was made before the Hennessy that if he won, we wouldn't go to Cheltenham and we'll wait and give it another year before we go there."

Poquelin, who traded as high as [48.0] in the ante-post market, was last seen when winning the Boylesports Gold Cup Handicap at Cheltenham in December - and on that occasion, he showed that he could be a force to be reckoned with at the Festival by powering up the hill in the closing stages. The seven-year-old has now won eight out of 29 races and he recently hit a low of [4.9] in the Ryanair market before easing back out slightly.

The Nicky Henderson Barbers Shop continues to attract some support around [6.6] and the trainer made a decision in January to got straight to the festival without a prep run. The eight-year-old had seemed very promising in his early career but the last time he saw the winners' enclosure was in 2008, following the Blue Square Casino Future Stars Chase at Sandown.

O'Grady's Tranquil Sea has also proved popular with punters and now trades around the [7.8] mark.

As of Monday, 22nd February, the 2010 Ryanair Chase market on Betfair stands as follows:

Poquelin - [5.2]
Barbers Shop - [6.8]
Tranquil Sea - [7.8]
Planet Of Sound - [15.0]
Schindlers Hunt - [15.0]
Voy Por Ustedes - [16.0]
The rest of the field are priced above [20.0]
