"Denman now trades at [4.5] to beat Kauto Star at Cheltenham following a disastrous performance which saw him unseat jockey Tony McCoy."
Denman's Gold Cup odds have drifted after what was supposed to be a comfortable Gold Cup dress-rehearsal turned into a nightmare for the big chestnut.
Denman now trades at [4.5] to beat Kauto Star at Cheltenham following a disastrous performance which saw him unseat jockey Tony McCoy in the Aon Chase at Kempton on Saturday afternoon.
Punters had been looking forward to what would have been one of jumps racing's greatest contests on the final day of the Prestbury Park festival but Kauto is now the firm favourite, trading at [1.89] to win a consecutive Gold Cup.
Denman was winning the race, having led his rivals for most of the three mile contest, and traded at [1.03] when he turned into the straight for the run for home. The horse they call "The Tank" blundered at the fourth to last fence, which nearly unseated McCoy, but a misjudged jump at the next fence, which landed him in the birch, sent the Champion Jockey sprawling.
Nearest rival Niche Market then saw his price come into [1.02] as he led before Tricky Trickster - having been matched at [110.00] in-running - powered to victory with Ruby Walsh on board.
