Galway 2:55 - Win and Place Back - Chasers Chance
Chasers Chance creeps into the Galway Blazers handicap chase off only 9-11 and should give his supporters a good run for their money. He has won 2 of his last 3 starts over fences but is still fairly well handicapped as he finished third in a handicap hurdle off a 1 lb higher mark than this last year. He wore cheekpieces for both of those victories, so the fact that he goes without them here is a slight concern, but hopefully he won't need them this longer trip. He has arguably the best lightweight in the country, Paul Townend, on his back and shouldn't be inconvenienced by either the trip or the ground.
Galway 3:30 - Place Lay - Trimbellina
Trimbellina looks sure to be prominent in the betting for the 2m 5f handicap as she has won her last 2 races and comes from a stable that keeps firing in the winners. However, her best form is on much quicker ground than this so it may be best to lay her for a place. She has to carry a 12 lb penalty for her most recent success, which isn't excessive, but this is a much stronger contest and she is unproven over the trip.
Galway 4:00 - Win Back - Black Quartz
Black Quartz looks like a horse that is capable of making his mark in listed/group company, so he should be able to defy top weight here. This may not be a strong a race as it looks at first glance, 4 of the 9 are out of the handicap, Pilgrim Dancer and Eireannach have shown their best form at 5f and Bobbyscot was taken out of a nursery at the Curragh because of soft ground. Black Quartz has improved with every run, handles soft ground well and will be well suited by the step up in trip. He is a confident selection to take this on route to better things.
