Timeform Irish Horse Racing Tips: Galway Races, Thursday

Wayne Bailey / 29 July 2009 Free Bet

Galway 2:35 - win and place back - DELIGHTFUL WAY

This is a race dominated by Separate Ways, who is on a hat-trick here. The David Marnane-trained gelding could well oblige again, but he has rocketed up the weights and is likely to be short. Whether he wins or not, there could be some tempting place prices about the others, and the lightly-weighted Delightful Way is the one who catches the eye. The filly has a good record on the prevailing ground and could well be suited by the marked drop in trip, having failed to get home at 1½m last time. Her second at Navan in May gives her every chance at this level.

Galway 3:45 - place lay - ANYWAYSMILE

Dermot Weld-trained horses are not to be opposed lightly this week, but the market over-adjusts in some instances and this may be one of them. Anywaysmile is going the right way after just two runs, the second of which resulted in a maiden win at Naas. But that was a decidedly ordinary contest, which Anywaysmile took in just workmanlike style, and there is no way on form that she deserves to be giving weight to ready last-time winner Drombeg Dawn or to the well-treated Flame of Ireland. In the circumstances, a place lay looks the percentage call.

Galway 5:00 - place back - EAGLE'S PASS

As far as getting placed in the Galway Hurdle is concerned, Eagle's Pass has been there, done that, and got the T-shirt. He was third in 2007 and second 12 months ago, and he comes into this year's renewal better than ever, though higher in the weights as a result. To describe his run at Bellewstown last time over hurdles as "eye-catching" would be an understatement, and he has since prepped nicely on the Flat. A win may be just beyond Eagle's Pass, conceding significant weight to a possible "good thing" in Deutschland among others, but a place looks very possible again.

Galway 5:40 - win back - NO ONE TELLS ME

There is nothing to get carried away with about No One Tells Me's form on the Flat to date, consisting as it does of three modest efforts in 2007, but there is plenty to get excited about otherwise. She has taken off over hurdles of late, winning three of her last four starts, including here on Monday. If she translates that back to the level she should be very difficult to beat. There is also the fact that those three Flat runs came at around a mile, whereas today's trip of 1½m should suit her much better. This looks like a "win or nothing" bet, and that, rather than getting involved in the place market, is the suggestion.
