Irish racing fans are in for a treat at Fairyhouse with three Grade One contests on Sunday.
"Dunguib is going to win in fine style again tomorrow and his price for the Supreme Novice’s Hurdle will disappear into the Winter’s night."
Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle (grade 1) (4YO plus)
I'm really looking forward to this race, simply because it features, without doubt, one of the most exciting horses of the last 10 years. Remember Black Jack Ketchum and how excited we all were to see him win his races on the bridle? There really isn't a better sight in sport, whether you're a punter or just a follower, to see someone, or something, at the very top of their game. Dunguib, the best bumper horse of the last ten years or more has had a fairly stress free start to his hurdles career - we've yet to see him over exert himself...it's almost as if he's wondering what the fuss is all about. This Sunday he's going to face his stiffest task to date as he comes up against some useful bumper winners who have also enjoyed fine starts to their hurdling careers. My English teacher used to always tell me never to start sentences with "I think" because if I'm writing the article then people already know these are my thoughts...so...here we go...Dunguib is going to win in fine style again tomorrow and his price for the Supreme Novice's Hurdle will disappear into the Winter's night. For the sake of racing, I hope this happens - we need another Irish National Hunt superstar that we can get behind. Sweep's Hill is no mug and will make sure this isn't another exercise spin for the favourite but he really isn't in the same class. Some Present disappointed last time and needs to prove himself all over again. Dunguib, it's over to you.
Bar One Racing Drinmore Novice Chase (grade 1) (4YO plus)
This race is fairly decent but I don't think there are any stars in here. Pandorama flattered many last season and we all thought he was going to be Pegasus, but he was put in his place on more than one occasion. The switch to fences hasn't brought out any hidden improvement in him and he only scraped home on his chasing debut. I'm going to put forward two horses who I think will work hard for our money. The main bet is Pesoto, simply because I believe he's the nailed on winner of this race. He beat Swift Counsel easily earlier this month and Swift Counsel went on to frank that form on Friday by winning a decent Beginner's chase in grand style. Don't look any further than Pesoto for your winner, and an old favourite of mine Caim Hill is no mug...you'll be able to get 40 plus about him on betfair tomorrow...try get 9 or 10 for a place and you'll definitely get a run for your money.
Bar One Racing Hatton's Grace Hurdle (grade 1) (4YO plus)
Catch me won this race last year and is favourite to do the same this time around. He didn't seem to take to jumping fences so connections are having another pop at what he seems to do best. He's a worthy favourite but I'm going to oppose him with Oscar Dan Dan. Oscar DD as his friends call him looked like he was going to collect the prize last time until coming to grief at the second last hurdle. That day's benefactor, Aitmatov, reopposes today at what will probably be shorter odds. I think Oscar DD was unlucky in his fall that day, he just seemed to jump the hurdle too enthusiastically, and I don't anticipate the same trouble for him this time. I have it as a match between Catch me and Oscar Dan Dan and just favour the later because I think he's open to more improvement.
