Betting tips for Lingfield

Some detest the all weather but that's the only place you'll find racing this weekend

"A glance through the stats suggests that Terry Mills-trained runners warrant considerable respect in January and Septemberintherain looked on the up when galloping on stoutly to finish fourth in a maiden here last November. The third from that race franked the form when bolting up on his next start and this Verglas colt looks to have been found the right opening to give it another boost."

Aeroplane can make the weekend lift off if on his best behaviour

Alastair Down didn't mince his words when the subject of all weather racing came up a couple of weeks ago.

"I just don't like the stuff," was the Channel 4 anchorman's summation of the Polytrack action brought in to replace abandoned jumping and there are plenty more winter stalwarts who wouldn't even open the curtains if an AW fixture was taking place in their front garden.

However, seek and ye shall find is a reasonable mantra when the weather dictates that winter Flat action is the only game in town.

It would be stretching things to suggest I will be going overboard at Lingfield this weekend, but three angles could prove worth exploring and they are as follows:

1: Back Septemberintherain in the 13:05

A glance through the stats suggests that Terry Mills-trained runners warrant considerable respect in January and this Verglas colt looked on the up when galloping on stoutly to finish fourth in a maiden here last November. The third from that race franked the form when bolting up on his next start and Septemberintherain looks to have been found the right opening to give it another boost.

2: Back Aeroplane in the 14:40 and lay him at [1.3] in running

This gelding was smart if quirky for Peter Chapple-Hyam and looks to have retained all his ability since switching to the prolific David Evans based on his fine second to Falcativ off an official mark of 100 in a hot handicap at Kempton. He doesn't always find a massive amount of the bridle - hence the bid to save the stake in-running - but the presence of the freewheeling Beauchamp Viceroy should ensure a true gallop and that will help Aeroplane's high cruising speed show to very best advantage.

3: Lay Imprimis Tagula for a place in the 14:10

Alan Bailey has worked wonders with this gelding, who has won four of his last five on various artificial surfaces and showed bags of spirit to hold an unlucky-in-running Ebraam at Wolverhampton on his latest start. However, the handicapper is probably beginning to reel him in now. The bottom line is that Imprimis Tagula is 24lb higher than when his winning run started. I can't see him being good enough to win a hot race like this off 98 and, with so many dangerous rivals in opposition, this might well be the day to take him on in the place market.
