In-running betting on Betfair

"It's more like 'cor blimey' with Jamie Osborne's Corr Point who seems to make very tough work of winning in most of his races."

It has been another fascinating week on the in-running front, with some high profile in-running events, but I like to delve a little deeper to find my horses to trade on, as so often the well reported stories lead to horses not trading at prices you would have hoped next time out. So today's horses are very much towards the bottom of the grade system, rather than the top.

Misamon - We are starting with a positive today, in the form of a seven-year-old summer jumper who has had a successful campaign in 2010. Misamon has been on the go, running virtually every week, since the beginning of June. His record in that time is one win over hurdles, two wins over the bigger fences, and a further three placed efforts. The handicapper hasn't been overly hard on him, putting him up 12lbs for his chasing mark so he will be running next off an official mark of 96, and his hurdle mark is 92. Connections have said that they will give him a short break so we might not see him for a few weeks but his career breakdown gives us an indication of when to play him. After a break of three weeks or more his record is no wins, and just two placed efforts in five runs. Compare this to the fact that when he is turned out within five days of his previous run his record is three wins, and one further placed effort, in just five runs. He is a summer jumper but can cope with cut in the ground, although no doubt he is better on a firmer surface. The important factor to remember from an in-running perspective is that he is a horse that keeps finding even when his pilot has to niggle at him from some way out. On all three successes this season he has traded at more than double his Betfair SP, touching [100.0] in the race during one run, having gone off [12.3]. So when Misamon is returned to the track shortly after a previous run, on preferably good to firm ground over a trip of around two miles, back him in the run at a few points bigger than his SP and put up a speculative offer at high odds in the hope of obtaining a really decent return.

Corr Point - More like 'cor blimey' with this three-year-old who seems to make very tough work of winning in most of his races. Jamie Osborne's Corr Point has now picked up back-to-back wins since being tried at around two miles and is still relatively unexposed with only eight career starts. He travels supremely well and actually has a useful cruising speed for a stayer. So, 'What is the BUT?'. Well, he tries to find a way of losing a race. At Lingfield under Fergus Sweeney last time out, he came travelling into the race wonderfully, looking all over the winner. Then as he got to the front he started to hang badly left, interrupting the run of the runner-up, and idling slightly as well. The stewards has a look at the incident but didn't turn the result around and he kept the race. I have to say that this wasn't Mr Sweeney's finest hour, as he could have changed his whip hand and thus straightened him out, but there is no doubt that Corr Point has his quirks. On his previous win at Warwick, he looked like he was going to hammer the field but then jumped the path at the furlong marker and struggled to keep his head in front. Maybe that is the answer, a jumping career awaits. I think he is worth taking on in the run when we next see him out.

Rolling Hills - Rolling Hills and rolling horse. We have another three-year-old to beware of in the form of Henry Candy's son of Celtic Swing who has rolled (or hung) on a number of occasions already and has also been one-paced in a finish. On his eighth career start he finally got his head in front in a weak maiden at Lingfield, where there were only three of the 11 runners who you could make a good case for. Despite winning, he hung once more and looked like he might throw the opportunity away, but the opposition just wasn't strong enough and he broke his maiden tag. I will be taking him on when he is stepped up to handicap company as connections like to fire him to the front which means we can oppose him in the run at low odds. If you take a look back at this race have a close look at Lathaat, who looks like he could be an interesting in-running horse as he appeared to run in patches.

As always, have a great punting week.
