Serena should have too much ammunition for Azarenka
"Serena holds a lifetime record of 48 wins and six losses at the Australian Open, has dropped just 15 games in her first four matches and has not lost serve once. Against Sam Stosur, Serena lost just seven points on serve, hit ten aces and 30 winners to 14 errors. She’s a rare commodity within the women’s game and a powerful one at that."
Serena Williams (USA) v Victoria Azarenka (BLR)
Watching Vera Zvoanreva implode against Victoria Azarenka in the previous round having been a set and 4-1 up highlights the frailties WTA tour players suffer from. It happens so often to players when leading a match, not having the power and accuracy on serve to hold as frequently as players in the men's game do allowing us punters to trade on constantly fluctuating odds.
There is, however, an exception and that exception is Serena Williams.
The world no.1 holds a lifetime record of 48 wins and six losses at the Australian Open, has dropped just 15 games in her first four matches and has not lost serve once. Against Sam Stosur, Serena lost just seven points on serve, hit ten aces and 30 winners to 14 errors. She's a rare commodity within the women's game and a powerful one at that.
Victoria Azarenka just never seems to give up, and will try her very best to torment and disrupt Serena on the hard courts.
The Belarusian defeated the American in straight sets in the Miami final last year and prior to this, at last year's Australian Open led against the eventual winner of the tournament before having to retire because of stomach pains and the summer heat. This match won't be a stroll in the park for Serena, she can expect a tough challenge from Azarenka, and it could go all the way!
